Volunteer
Volunteers are crucial to winning this election.
Below are a list of some things volunteers can help us attain. We're also in need of people with valid drivers licenses and insured vehicles who can drive voters in need to the polls the day of the election. Please contact Campaign Manager Anita D. Collins 912-262-9811 if you're in the Southern Georgia area and can volunteer to drive on election day.
Here's an update of what we've been able to do with your support
Elaine Calling for a New Wave of Freedom Riders

is up against a financially formidable opponent, head of Blueprint Brunswick,
who raised $55K in one night in mid-September.
We need money for:
More yard signs
More bread
T-shirts
Campaign buttons
· VOTER ASSISTANCE:
o Vehicles and gasoline for transportation to/from the polls
o Vehicles and gasoline for transportation and assistance in obtaining photo ID.
§ In order to vote under the new Georgia voter law, voters have to show a government-issued photo ID. Many black and poor and elderly and disabled and foreign-born people don't have such ID. The most accessible form is the Georgia ID card. BUT, to get that card, one must prove both citizenship and residency. Proof of citizenship boils down to presentation of a certified copy of one's birth certificate. In the Brunswick area, the cost for a certified certificate is $10.
§ Not only do people need help paying for ID, in a city without public transportation, they need help getting to and from the offices issuing birth certificates and ID cards.
· TELEVISION, RADIO AND PRINT ADVERTISING
o The local cable advertising rate for most stations averages around $8.00 per 30-second spot. There are about 40 stations available, and the suggested package is around 3 spots per day per station, around $1,000 per day.
§ We couldn't dream of this! But, if we bought time on five stations, we'd need only $120 per day. If we ran these ads for the last 20 days of the campaign, leading up to November 8, the cost would be around $2,400.
§ The good news is, the campaign has gotten a professional filmmaker to produce, direct and edit the commercials for free!
o Combining this with radio and print, a modest, overall projected advertising budget would be around $6,000 or $7,000.
· ACCOMMODATIONS FOR CAMPAIGN WORKERS. A number of volunteers will be coming into Brunswick for the last week of the campaign. We need money to pay for housing for these out-of-town volunteers.
-
MAILING. We intend to mail a postcard to about 4,000 prospective voters. The rate for postcards is $.23; so, the total for the mailing would be $920--plus production.
